Background Check Information

Everything you need to know about background checks on IHSS Connect.

How it works

HSS Connect partners with Checkr to offer voluntary background checks for caregivers. IHSS Connect acts only as a pass-through — we do not evaluate results or determine eligibility.

  • Caregivers who complete a background check receive a badge on their profile.
  • The badge means a check was voluntarily completed — not that IHSS Connect has cleared or approved that caregiver.
  • Recipients may request a copy of the report directly from the caregiver via messaging. Sharing is the caregiver’s decision.
  • The badge and banner remain visible for 2 years from the date of the check.

How to find and download your Checkr report

After your background check is complete, Checkr sends you an email with your report. Follow the steps below to download it.

Step 1 — Find the Checkr email

Search your inbox for an email from Checkr. Check your spam or junk folder if you don’t see it in your main inbox.

Step 2 — Open the Checkr candidate portal

Click the link in the Checkr email. It will take you to candidate.checkr.com where you can log in and view your report.

Step 3a — Download on a computer (PC / Mac)

  1. Log in at candidate.checkr.com
  2. Click your report to open it
  3. Look for the Download or Print button (usually top-right)
  4. Save the PDF to your computer

 

Step 3b — Download on a phone (iPhone / Android)

  1. Open the Checkr email on your phone
  2. Tap the link to open candidate.checkr.com in your browser
  3. Log in and open your report
  4. Tap the share icon or the three-dot menu and choose Save to Files (iPhone) or Download (Android)

 

Sharing your report with a recipient

Once you have the PDF, you can send it through IHSS Connect messaging:

  1. Go to My Messages
  2. Open your conversation with the recipient
  3. Tap the attachment icon (paperclip) in the message box
  4. Select your downloaded PDF report
  5. Send the message


Sharing your report is always your choice. You may decline a recipient’s request.
